Tourism Present Status And Potential Post-Covid 19

On the morning of November 17, 2022, a conference on Post-Covid-19 Tourism was held at the National Convention Center. The conference welcomed the presence of many officials of ministries, sectors, and representatives of many travel companies across the country. At the conference, the speakers and audiences had the opportunity to give their viewpoints and personal comments on the situation of the tourism industry in Vietnam in particular and in the world in general after the Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time, the participants also made predictions for the future of the tourism industry.


Beginning the conference, Ms. Dao Thi Nhu Quynh, a famous travel blogger, had a speech about tourism development in Hai Phong after the pandemic. According to Quynh, after the pandemic was under control, thanks to the media effect, a large number of tourists have come to Hai Phong in the past two years. In addition, Ms. Quynh also pointed out the strengths that Hai Phong has been promoting to develop the tourism potential of the province, such as reducing train ticket prices and releasing a map for tourists. However, these are only temporary solutions, in the future, Hai Phong will focus on investing in facilities, improving the degraded infrastructure, and requiring business households to commit to hygiene and safe food to attract more tourists to Hai Phong.

At the conference, Ms. Le Thi Tuoi - Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, also shared about one of the future tourism trends - touchless tourism. According to Ms. Tuoi's speech, no-touch travel will bring customers a very new experience with a lot of stages that have been converted to automation. Currently, there are many steps taken by non-touch forms such as check-in, buying tickets, and getting tickets,... And according to Ms. Tuoi, no-touch tourism is very open in the near future. Vietnam will be able to deploy contactless tourism widely and effectively.

After Ms. Le Thi Tuoi’s speech, Mr. Chris, Member of Exchange International presented the problems that the world is facing after the Covid-19 epidemic and the problems facing the world are thorny globally, typically the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The figures show that the Covid pandemic has had a huge impact on the global tourism industry: the total tourism revenue in 2020 is only 28% compared to 2019. The figures that Mr. Chris also shows a slow and not very positive recovery immediately after the pandemic (total revenue in 2022 is only 29% compared to 2019) and the prospects for tourism come from recent changes in movement between countries. According to Mr. Chris, people are still concerned about the rising cost of living in the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, especially fuel prices, which are making travel much more difficult than before.

To answer the question about the solution to the difficult situation that the US aviation industry is facing, Mr. Chris said that many US flights have been delayed and canceled in the past, especially during the holidays, and this causes a lot of inconvenience to people. He also said that the US government has not yet come up with a satisfactory solution to this problem and that the government's efforts to remedy this situation are pointless.

To end the presentation and discussion of the conference, Ms. Phan Hoai Thu - Director of the Institute of Tourism Research and Development presented the trend of green tourism which is currently being promoted besides traditional tourism types. In her speech, Ms. Thu mentioned the strengths of green tourism as well as the benefits it brings, especially the positive impacts on the environment. In addition, Ms. Thu brought out the highlights of Vietnam that are suitable for green tourism development such as having natural resources and extremely rich ethnic customs. According to Ms. Thu, the potential of green tourism in Vietnam will be strongly developed in the near future and will be well worth the investment. Answering a reporter's question, Ms. Thu said that at present, Vietnam's tourism industry in general and green tourism in particular, are facing a number of challenges in the near future: the rapid growth rate causes place strain on facilities and resources, in addition, there is unreasonable planning at tourist sites, tourist areas, and finally, people's awareness of environmental protection has not yet been established. The high level also makes the promotion of green tourism encounter lots of problems.
