As reported by the Namviet Archeology Department on November 3rd 2021, 3 ancient footprints considered as dinosaur footprints were found in this country. “This is a huge discovery”, Miss. Truong Nha, the archeology team leader said. According to her, it is really rare that dinosaur footprints are found in an Asian country, and it is even more exciting to find them in a country nearby South China Sea like this.

Since the nineteenth century, lots of dinosaurs fossils have been found in many places around the world from west to east. But this time, the archeology team found something completely different that has not been found anywhere else on earth. The reason is that normal dinosaurs’ footprints have 3 long fingers, but with these ones, there are 4 fingers per foot (maybe 5 including the one that doesn’t touch the ground).

These footprints are quite small and they seem to be like those of dilophosauridae. From this factor, this species might be a carnivore animal. Besides, they seem to have the ability to run at a high speed while hunting smaller animals. Miss. Truong Nha answers the reporter: “There are thousands of species of dinosaurs that have been found around the world but this one will change some of the previous researches.”

The Dilophosauridae ("double-ridged lizards") is a family of carnivorous theropod dinosaurs, possibly belonging to the Ceratosauria. The only 2 members are Dilophosaurus (North America, Asia), Dracovenator (Africa) and Sinosaurus (Asia) which all lived from the Late Triassic to the Early Jurassic. All five of them also have crests. Perutyrannus, Shuangbaisaurus and Zupaysaurus possibly also belong to this group.

With this exploration, scientists will have more chances to get closer to other species of dinosaurs. In the near future, archaeologists are going to promote activities around this area for further information.
